LABOR LAW

On May 30, 2019, the new Dubai International Financial Center employment law called "DIFC Law No. 2 of 2019" was promulgated by Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Emir, Vice President, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the United Arab Emirates. The law will come into force on August 28, 2019.

the most important advantages in the new law is to apply the best international standards in many areas such as paternity leave, sick leave, or even termination benefits. These amendments were deemed essential by the Governor of the DIFC, who also indicated that this will create an attractive environment for the development of the employees who work there.

Discrimination is now sanctioned

Under the old law, any discrimination relating to sex, marital status, ethnicity, nationality, religion and the mental or physical disability of the employee was prohibited. However, no corrective measures were mentioned in the law.

The DIFC law n ° 2 of 2019 adds two prohibited discriminating characteristics: discrimination affecting the age and pregnancy of an employee.

In addition, the discriminated party will now be able to seize the court, which may order the discriminating party to pay compensation equal to one year of minimum wage.

In the United Arab Emirates, the employment contract for expatriates combines salary and many advantages. In fact, it is common for the company in which you work to take over all or part of your accommodation, the purchase of new furniture, your telephone plan and part of your food.
